CUPPING
Traditional Chinese Fire Cupping

Chinese fire cupping is a traditional therapeutic technique that involves creating a vacuum inside glass cups, which are then placed on the skin. The vacuum is created by briefly heating the cups and then applying them to the skin, causing suction. As the cups cool down, they create a partial vacuum, drawing the skin and underlying tissues into the cup.

The effects of Chinese fire cupping can be both physical and physiological.

It’s worth noting that cupping can leave temporary marks on the skin, ranging from pink to dark purple. These marks are caused by the suction and are not typically painful. They usually fade within a few days to a week.

Add on a cupping service to your osteopathic treatment. Please note that the area of the body being treated will be undressed and the patient will be between two sheets similar to massage therapy.

The suction created by cupping draws blood to the area where the cups are applied. This increased blood flow can help promote the delivery of oxygen, nutrients, and immune cells to the tissues, facilitating the healing process.

The suction and negative pressure from cupping can help relax tense muscles and relieve muscle spasms. It may help to release tight fascia (connective tissue) and break up adhesions in the muscles.

Cupping is often used as a complementary therapy for pain management. The increased blood flow, muscle relaxation, and release of endorphins (natural pain-relieving chemicals) can help alleviate pain symptoms. Cupping is commonly used for conditions such as back pain, neck pain, and muscle strains.

Cupping is believed to stimulate the lymphatic system, which helps remove toxins and waste products from the body. It is thought to enhance the body’s natural detoxification processes and promote overall wellness.

By targeting specific areas of tension or restriction, cupping can help improve joint mobility and flexibility. It may assist in breaking up scar tissue and adhesions that limit range of motion.

Cupping therapy can induce a deep sense of relaxation and relieve stress. The soothing effect of the treatment, combined with improved blood flow and the release of endorphins, can promote a state of relaxation and well-being.
